With around 20 years experience working and writing in the software industry (where I progressed from programmer to writer), there are very few types of document I haven't created and I have been chosen again and again by companies I have tendered with (I am nearing the end of a contract and looking for further work). Prior work includes bids, API/SDKs, various design documents, help files, web content and more. I also have a great eye for layout/presentation, and am used to creating diagrams to accompany work or otherwise turning 'raw' text into various more finished media where required.

For example recent projects have seen me create entire training manuals for print, in tandem with accompanying examples and html for distribution on DVD. I have specialised in writing about software, but have also written for consumer electronics and other areas; I am very versatile and used to working in teams or alone, coordinating and managing projects both nationally and internationally. I am currently writing several "teach yourself..." manuals aimed at C++ use and Photoshop use. In addition, I have been contributing to a range of general science websites in the US, creating articles as diverse as "Regenerative braking explained" and "How does the RGB system work?".

In addition to all aspects of computer hardware and software, my own interests include electronic project construction/PCB design and PIC programming, general engineering, aviation, automotive, astronomy and ‘popular’ science - just some of the subjects I am comfortable writing about (I am used to consulting with SMEs and always thoroughly research and validate the material I produce).

I am currently nearing the end of a fairly lengthy contract and am seeking further opportunities. - I enjoy what I do and am keen to continue to apply my skills in any way I can. I would love to discuss any requirements/opportunities you have; please see the contact page for further details (where you can also download a selection of samples).
